WATER

Challenge: To rethink and discover better solutions for managing water supplies, heavy rainfall and wastewater, and address the threat against flooding - e.g. through blockchain and sensor technology.

Water in and around Vejle is both an asset and a challenge. Vejle is vulnerable to flooding and research shows that lower areas of the city will be underwater by the year 2100.

There is an urgent need to address this threat and rethink how we manage water supply, rain and wastewater.

How can combining water management with Blockchain technology help solve this issue?

Participants will explore the idea of how a decentralised network of water supply and water transfer could benefit the urban development in Vejle.

ENERGY

Challenge: To develop new innovative solutions adding value to the energy network ranging from energy asset management to distribution and user integration.

The number of people with access to electricity has increased by 1.7 billion between 1990 and 2010. The demand for energy is very much on the rise – especially affordable and clean energy.

Assets can be optimized through forecasting and failure detections for more efficient wind farms. New business models for future energy distribution network could result as an example in peer-to-peer trading of renewable energy powered by blockchain technology. And end-user integration can be addressed by enabling end users to influence or control their own energy consumption.

The solutions that can be provided and integrated into an energy network can address above mentioned goal through technical, motivational or social means, all with a result that improves the resilience of the municipality.

SOCIAL RESILIENS

Challenge: How can new technologies help citizens control their lives as increasing urbanization transforms our traditional way of living?

Increased social inequality and polarization, higher public expenses to socially vulnerable families and an older demographic with more psychologically vulnerable youth are some of the challenges we face as a society in a fast-paced, modern and urbanized world.

Can we build platforms that strengthen social cohesion? How can technology help vulnerable citizens control their economy? And how can we use communities to prevent homelessness among young people?

The development doesn’t seem to slow down anytime soon – cities, the labour market, the society keep changing. And it’s safe to say, that these changes will make great demands on both citizens, businesses and municipalities.

Participants will be challenges to solve those huge issues with technology.
